Community Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CYH) (CHS) and Quorum Health Corp (NYSE:QHC) are being closely watched by analysts as they face respective challenges following the latter’s recent spinoff from the former. They have been in the eyes of scrutiny especially after releasing their respective second quarter earnings reports earlier this month.

CHS Q2 Financial Highlights

CHS had a total of $4.59 billion in net operating revenues, which is down by 6% year-over-year from $4.88 billion, for the period. The company reported a net operating loss of $1.43 billion, which is comparable to a net income of $117 million reported during the same period in 2015. Meanwhile, the diluted EPS attributed to common shareholders was seen at $(12.91), which is down year-over-year from $0.95.

CHS had a net cash from operating activities of $338 million, which is down by 40.20% year-over-year from $565 million.

Quorum Health Q2 Financial Highlights

Quorum Health has also reported a 1.60% year-over-year decline in net operating revenues to $529.70 million from $538.40 million. The company had a net operating loss of $259.30 million, which is comparable to a net income of $27.50 million reported last year. Meanwhile, the net loss attributable to common shareholders came in at $245.10 million, which is comparable to a net income attributable to common shareholders of $1.40 million reported during the same period last year.

H1 Financial Highlights

For the first half of the fiscal year (FY) 2016, CHS had a 2.10% year-over-year decline in net operating revenues to $9.59 billion from $9.79 billion. On the other hand, Quorum Health had a 0.60% year-over-year drop in net operating revenues to $1.08 million from $1.09 million.

For CHS, the net loss attributable to its common shareholders amounted to $1.42 billion, which is comparable to a net income attributable to common shareholders of $209 million reported in 2015. For Quorum Health, the net loss came in at $238.20 million, which is comparable to a net income of $61.80 million posted during the same quarter in 2015.
