Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is going to equip the older vehicles with a free Siri Eyes software update. According to a company announcement, it would be equipping over five million vehicles up to the 2011 model with the software that would be available for all vehicles of Ford that have the SYNC infotainment system. Particularly, vehicles that have the second generation SYNC system called MyFord Touch in Northern America will get the technology of Siri Eyes.

The Apple iPhone users will now benefit with the Siri Eyes software and according to Sherif Marakby, Electronics Director for Ford, this voice-active feature will increase the user convenience and make them concentrate more on the road for a safer driving experience.

Functionality of Siri Eyes

The Siri Eyes feature can be used through a button on the steering wheel that would activate the feature and allow some functions like keeping the iPhone screen off while driving to help user concentrate. With the feature, the Ford users will be able to call anyone from their contact, compose or listen to messages, get to know about their calendar agenda, keep a tab on the weather updates, set reminders, select and play music and that too just by giving out voice commands.

Great Achievement

So just by connecting the iPhones to the USB drive of the vehicle, the users will get access to this features that works on the Bluetooth technology. The new software update that the users need to do for getting the Siri Eyes takes up to 25 minutes and even thought the vehicle would be driven, the infotainment system would not work during the update. The infotainment system of SYNC is currently equipped in over 12 million vehicles on the roads as on date and this is the first company to use the voice-active technology to control smartphones while driving.

The SYNC features ability to get software updates makes the Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) connectivity strategy superb and also boosts the Ford Smart Mobility technology through which the company aims to take the vehicle connectivity, mobility, consumer experience, data, analytics and autonomous vehicles to a new high.
