EnteroMedics Inc (NASDAQ:ETRM) reported that vBloc® Neurometabolic therapy is made available to U.S. veterans. It is made achievable through the previously reported EnteroMedics deal with Academy Medical, LLC.  As of October 2016, vBloc was included to Academy Medical’s five-year only source deal with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The experts view

Dan Gladney, the CEO and President of EnteroMedics, said that they are delighted that VA surgeons have the ability to cure more than one million qualified veterans combating obesity with vBloc treatment. The veterans of armed services, and also other patients, merit access to every alternative that may aid in their combat against obesity. The management look forward to functioning closely with the Academy Medical and VA to train VA surgeons for making them prepared to provider vBloc Therapy.

vBloc Therapy works to regulate hunger sensations using a pacemaker-like device. This is fixed under the skin in a minimally-invasive process. The device helps subjects feel full and as a result it is a major tool in realizing clinically significant weight loss. When subjects feel full, they can control their appetite and drop weight without any key lifestyle repercussions of outdated bariatric surgeries. Unlike conventional therapies, vBloc Therapy is an effective, long-term solution which, if required, can be safely removed or disabled without leaving lasting harm to patient anatomy.

The highlights

EnteroMedics reported that the vBloc System is permitted for use in assisting with weight loss in obese individuals aged 18 years and more, with a BMI of 40 to 45 kg/m2, or a Body Mass Index of 35-39.9 kg/m2 with a linked health illness such as high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea or high cholesterol levels.

Dan Shaw, the President and Founder of Academy Medical, LLC, reported that Academy Medical is delighted to work with EnteroMedics for providing veterans with convenient access to this cutting edge and revolutionary weight loss option. This deal is another instance of how they are delivering on their shared objective to offer unique medical devices to VA clinics. The Veterans Health Administration runs one of the renowned health care systems across the globe.
