Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has developed a third version of the solar roofs using tempered glass that comprise both non-solar and solar tiles. The company has set a target of 1,000 weekly solar roof installations. Vice President (Technology) at Tesla, Drew Baglino, said power capacity and size of the solar roof tiles are increased and holds fewer parts. Tesla collects $33,950 to install tempered glass roof tiles on 2,000 Sq. Ft. Roofs.

Tesla aims for a large number of installations

Tesla hopes to install a large number of third version solar roof tiles in the coming months. Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, said the cost of third version solar tiles installation is less when compared to the roof with already installed solar tiles.

The third-generation solar roof tiles facilitate quicker and easier installations when compared to the previous versions. They are economical, and CEO targets thousands of installations in the coming months. The latest solar tiles would transform the image of Tesla from a car maker to an energy company.

The glass tiles on the roof convert the solar light into energy. House owners can have a sigh of relief from the maintenance costs because the latest version comes with a 25-year warranty. The features of third version solar roof tiles include chunks with a diameter of 2 inches and withstand winds up to 100 miles per hour.

Walmart files a lawsuit against Tesla

Tesla faced issues in the past with the first and second versions of solar roof tiles. The company faced the blames of fire on the roofs to delays in the supply. Walmart has filed a lawsuit against the traditional solar tiles manufactured by Tesla because it cites fires on top of the seven stores in the US. According to an order by the Judge, Tesla is given time up to November 8, 2019, to respond to the lawsuit.

Musk faces accusation

Musk and his colleagues are under scrutiny on the takeover of SolarCity, an energy company established by Peter Reve, and Lyndon, in 2016, for $2.6 billion. Both Peter Reve and Lyndon, who are the relatives of Musk, have started the company with a $10 million loan from Musk, who worked as a chairman at SolarCity.
